Spouse: Sarah LNU

She is documented in Ambrose Cobb's 1797 will and estate papers.1799 she refers to her "age and infirmities"1800 census[ son William head of household] age 45 up; b. no later than 1755. Deceased before Feb 14, 1815In April 1802 Ambrose Cobb's executors instigated suit vs. John Dickson and Robert McCombs for Debt. At Oct. 1802 sessions of Lincoln Co, court, defendants acknowledged the debt and promised to pay in six months. The amount was 196.00.3.1/2 pounds. Part of this debt continued unpaid and the executors brought suit for the balance at Oct. 1805 sessions of the county court.

William and James Cobb, executors of Ambrose Cobb vs John Dickson and Robert McCombs. Jury's verdict is that after all payments have been deducted there remain due 25.7.1 pounds plus court costs. Following jury's verdict at Oct Court 1805 an attachment was issued against Dickson and McCombs for 27.15.1 pounds to collect the balance due Ambrose Cobb's estate. The debt was eventually paid in full. The Attachment states the

debt is due to William and James Cobb, Executors of Ambrose Cobb deceased. You will note that this attachment implies Ambrose Cobb's son James is still alive in Oct 1805, even though he died had died before April that year. The death of Ambrose Cobb's son James is documented in his estates papers and his identy is re-confirmed by Lincoln Co. DB 35:4151810 Fed census pg.477 Lincoln Co, NCWidow Sarah Cobb is listed as head of household, she is age 45 and up, with no one else in the household except one slave [ the one negro woman sold at the Feb 1815 estate sale] Son William is nearby pg. 478* Most researchers assume that since Sarah was in the Household of son William Cobb on the 1800 Lincoln Co, census pg 829 (bro's James and David have adjacent households) that she died before 1810 and that the Widow Cobb on the 1810 census is the widow of one of the other Cobb's. But by the Estate not closing until Feb 1815 we know that she was alive until at least Jan 1815, because of the conditions set forth by Ambrose that she have the estate for use in her lifetime, after her death it could all be sold and divided.
