OBITUARY: "For John Shay, Sr., 88 -- Greenbush [KS], Sept. 3 [1940] -- Funeral services will be at 9:30 o'clock Wednesday morning at Greenbush with Father Oenbrink officiating for John Shay, Sr., 88, who died yesterday morning in Kansas City. Mr. Shay was born Dec. 18, 1851, in Connecticut, moving to Bourbon County about 60 years ago, Mr. Shay died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. C. E. Oaks, after an illness of two weeks.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Jerry Hallacy of Girard, Mrs. Jim Fox of Walnut R.R., Mrs. Oaks of Kansas City, and Mrs. Emery Leist of Kansas City; six sons, Bert Shay of Girard, James Shay of Meadeville, Penn., George Shay of Kansas City, William Shay of Cochranton, Penn., John Shay, Jr., of Girard, and Ed Shay of Kansas City; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Crain of Springfield, Mo., and Mrs. Nora Burris [Burros] of Walnut Grove, Mo.

The body is at the Jim Fox home three-fourths mile north of the Fox filling station near Greenbush. The Carson Chapel of Parsons is in charge."
